Friends of the Walk of Fame
The iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame celebrates 50 years of existence in 2010. Unfortunately, our stars are aging … just as a real star would! In order to bring the Walk of Fame back to its original condition before the end of its Golden Anniversary, a collaboration of public and private organizations have been working for more than three years determining new specifications that would help to preserve the walk, designating which stars need to be replaced and raising the funds for the project. Cynthia Ruiz, President of the Board of Public Works of the City of Los Angeles, has chaired the effort. The following organizations have been involved:

- Metro
- City of Los Angeles
- Council District 13
- Bureau of Engineering
- Cultural Heritage Commission
- Community Redevelopment Agency
- Dept. of Water & Power
As part of the public-private partnership, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created a special program, known as “Friends of the Hollywood Walk of Fame” to recognize corporations that step up and make a sizable contribution to the restoration effort. These companies are recognized with a special star award located adjacent to the Walk of Fame at one of the most prestigious locations along Hollywood Blvd., in front of the Kodak Theatre. To date, two companies have stepped forward to become “Friends” of the Walk of Fame. They include Absolut Vodka and L’Oreal. We salute these Friends of the Walk of Fame for helping to make the restoration possible!
